A metal rod designed to be inserted into a suitable powered surgical instrument (e.g., pneumatic reamer or drill tip with suitable torque capacity) and rotated to drill through hard/hard tissue (e.g., bone, cartilage) to clear a channel of the same diameter as the rod. The drill is cannulated, hollow-centred and usually flexible, allowing it to be guided through the guide rod for positioning in the correct position prior to surgery.
This product is typically used in orthopaedic surgery to clean the intramedullary canal prior to prosthesis insertion. It is a reusable product.
