The Er:YAG laser active element is basically a rod made of synthetic monocrystalline alumina-ittrium garnet activated by erbium with plane-parallel polished ends with optical coatings applied on them. Depending on the application, the elements differ in lattice orientation, activator concentration and type of coating. The element is the working body of a solid-state laser emitting at wavelengths of 1640 and 2940 nm.
